For today's INSPIRE post I wanted to do something a little different...I want to share an inspiring book with you. It is a cookbook called Babel and is written by Maranda Engelbrecht. Maranda is a stylist and the mastermind behind Babel Restaurant at the awe inspiring Babylonstoren in Franschhoek.

The concept behind Babel is that the menu is seasonal and dependent on what is harvested from their 4 hectare formal vegetable and fruit garden. They have over 300 edible varieties of plants in the garden, allowing for some truly fantastical flavour combinations.

This concept shines through in the book with combinations like lightly smoked trout in a ginger broth with pickled strawberries (pictured below right). It inspires me to want to try new things and not be scared to mix combos that sound weird.

The one thing I love about this book is that the photography is spectacular. Recipe pages are interspersed with images from around the farm. It truly gives one a feeling of what it is like to spend the day there.

I cannot wait to cook something from this beautiful book...maybe the pineapple carpaccio with carrot cake ice cream (pictured below right).

Babel is available from Babylonstoren and Woolworths. Unfortunately it is not yet available to international customers online but I will be sure to keep you updated when it does.
